Saturdays

This year we’ve tried to make Saturdays a “family day”. Since the cows aren’t as concerned about our “family time” as they are about eating and calving, the girls and I join Buck and help feed and otherwise take care of things. It’s nice to spend the whole day together as a family and a good chance to break up everyone’s daily routine; we all appreciate the change of scenery.
Since I don’t feed cows everyday, I actually really enjoy getting out of the house and flaking hay or straw off to the cows. Buck drives the pickup and hangs out with the girls while I exert myself…
feeding cows,
chasing calves who’ve wandered off,
and taking pictures of various events throughout our day, including those times when I decide I’m tired of feeding and would rather take pictures of my honey.
Buck, too, has turned into quite the “weekend” photographer and enjoys catching me in the aforementioned activities.
Saturday is a delightful day for the Matthews’ girls… and I don’t think it’s too bad for the Matthews’ boy, either.

Hello, Just browsing through your blog- I caught site of it on the Beef Blog under Oregon Cowboys face tough new advisary. I like your blogs and the Rattlesnake Drive. Looks like beautiful country. We are in central Texas and not near as pretty here. Yesterday I went with my husband after church to see our cows. He has 90 head scattered over a 78 mile trip!! He’s put together some heifers and has them on several different places, then our mama cows on our own place with all their babies. Anyway we spent a windy afternoon – riding (in the pick up) putting out cubes for each bunch. Just want to let you know I appreciate your blog and keep up the good work. I love that you can get out and work together. That is something we would love to do as a family at other times than just the weekend. Great pictures. I’ll definitely be stopping by more often to visit your blog.
